Recruitment

We recruit our teachers and support staff from the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United States and Canada, through advertising in local trade journals, online recruitment campaigns and social media networking, in addition to conducting regular presentations at Teacher Training Colleges and Universities both in the UK and abroad. We also receive referrals from teachers and support staff who are already working with us.

Vetting

At Mayflower Education we consider the safety and welfare of children to be of paramount importance in terms of our service to schools and are fully committed to providing candidates who have been thoroughly vetted and cleared to work. As an accredited member of the Recruitment Employment Confederation (REC), all of our teachers and support staff are subject to stringent vetting procedures in accordance with the REC “Safeguarding Children and in Education” and DfE statutory guidelines ensuring that any candidate placed in a school by Mayflower Education has met the requirements of the highest safeguarding standards. Our checks include:

• Identification check – passport, national ID card or photo driving licence
• Proof of address - recent utility bill
• Qualifications check - sight of originals or verification with the issuing institution and comparability with UK NARIC for overseas teachers
• Two professional references – (one from a candidate’s most recent teaching job)
• Any open references and testimonials are verified with the referee.
• Right to work - passports are checked for the right to work in the UK.
• CV check – ( CVs must be complete and any unexplained gaps must be accounted for)
• Criminal records check (UK and overseas if applicable) - all candidates must complete a DBS Enhanced Disclosure and all candidates from overseas or teachers who have taught overseas must have a current police report from the relevant country.
• Barred 99 List check – completed as part of the recruitment process and then annually.
• DfE number (or overseas equivalent if applicable) - for qualified teachers.
• GTC Registration (or overseas equivalent if applicable) - for qualified teachers
• Medical fitness to teach Form - completed for all teachers and support staff.

Evidence of all checks is filed and recorded on our company database. In addition a Photo ID Security Vetting email which includes the above will be sent to schools prior to a candidate starting work

Registration and Interview of candidates

Our detailed registration process involves an initial telephone interview with candidates to determine their suitability and to check that they are in possession of all the necessary documentation required to bring to interview at our offices. If a candidate appears to be suitable and has all the required documentation an appointment will be made for a face to face interview. During interview our consultants will endeavour to determine the candidate’s particular strengths and weaknesses enabling them to have frank discussions with schools concerning the type of institution the candidate would be best placed and which subject/s they could teach or support.Our face to face interviews always include discussion about the following:

Online DBS Checking Service for Schools & Academies

Mayflower Education are pleased to be able to offer schools and academies a quick and efficient online DBS checking service for schools and academies which takes care of your DBS checks quickly and efficiently, saving your institution from having to undertake time consuming vetting checks and enabling your staff to be available for work sooner. Special features include:

• Fast service: we send applications to the DBS the same day you approve them

• Results back quicker: as soon as we receive the results, we send them to you

Our online system uses the DBS’s secure e-bulk system, enabling us to return more than 40% of DBS checks within two days.

Processing DBS checks online is the quickest and most error proof way, however we do also offer a paper-based service if required.
